The Matsui Trail Regional Park in Abbotsford B.C. is a must see destination for water lover dogs and dog owners. The park is a 10 km long flat, linear park right by the Fraser River and features a gravel trail that is perfect for walking and horseback riding. The park also has big picnic tables, fire pits and beach access where you can also fish. Dogs do have to be on leash while on the park premises. However, if you have a longer leash, it would still be a great spot to let your pup run around and play in the water on the beach shoreline.
While you walk through the park, you will be greeted with incredible views of the Cascade Mountains and some farmlands surrounding the area. About halfway through the trail, you will also see an old railway bridge that is a great spot to take photos with your dog. As mentioned earlier, the trail is frequented by horseback riders as well, so make sure to be extra cautious if you see them approaching, especially if your dog isn’t used to being around horses or is easily spooked. Also make sure that you have a tight grip on your dog’s leash so they don’t run up to the horses and accidentally spook them. The park technically isn’t a dog park so don’t expect any dog amenities on the trail. Make sure to bring your dog gear such as poop bags, water and water bottles, especially on a hot day.
