Minnekhada Regional Park is a natural park in Coquitlam, B.C. and is approximately a 1 hour drive from downtown Vancouver. Head over to this park for a nice day trip with your dog. The park is over 200 hectares featuring trails, rock knolls, marshes, forest areas, plenty of birds and other wildlife. There are many trails to explore varying in difficulty but all of them should be doable for you and your furry pal. The trails are either gravel or packed dirt trails. Since there are lots of different trail options, consider booking a whole day off if you would like to explore the whole park.
While on the trails, make sure to keep your dog on leash at all times and do not let them swim in the marshes as they are protected wildlife areas. Bear sightings are also common in the park so make sure you exercise caution and follow all the signs. Also, remember that you should not feed or approach wildlife. One of the main attractions at this park is the High Knoll lookout which you and your pup can get to by taking the High Knoll trail. This trail does consist of some steep slopes but should not be too difficult to get through. Once you are at the lookout, you will have a magnificent view of the park’s marsh, Minnekhada Lodge, the Pitt River, the Pitt-Addington Marsh, and the surrounding farmlands from up above. This would be the perfect spot for a picnic or just to sit and marvel at the view. If you would like to visit the Minnekhada Regional Park, make sure you respect the space by picking up after your dog and disposing of your poop bags in designated garbage bins. There are no dog specific amenities at this park so make sure you come prepared.
