Mount Seymour Provincial Park
Mount Seymour Provincial Park is located about 15 kilometres north of Downtown Vancouver and is the perfect escape from the city. With an area of 35 square kilometres, the park boasts many fantastic trails, wildlife and viewpoints. In the summer, it is a great destination for hiking, picnicking, wildlife viewing and mountain biking. While on the trails, pets do have to be kept on leash at all times.
The highlight of this park for dog lovers is the Dog Mountain trail. This trail is a fairly easy trail that features summit views extending to Vancouver city. In the winter time, it is a popular spot for snowshoeing with your pup by your side. The trail is about 2 km each way with minimal elevation so it’s perfect for snowshoe beginners and also perfect your snow loving pup. From the Mount Seymour Provincial Park parking lot, weave your way through the trees and head to the First Lake. From here, you and your pup will hike up to a viewpoint that offers incredible views of Mount Baker, Vancouver and other nearby mountains.
If you have a smaller dog, or a dog with not much fur, make sure they have their winter gear on as prolonged hikes in the cold can be dangerous if they don’t have the proper layers on. On this note, make sure you keep your pup moving as much as possible as exercise will help warm them up. Make sure you bring some extra snow booties for you pup if they need it just in case they accidentally rip them during the hike. Once you have adequately prepared, hiking at Mount Seymour Park is sure to be a fun adventure for you and your pooch.
